Intsructor's philosophy: In an ever changing world, an advanced understanding of world history will help students put world events into perspective. The skills they learn will allow students to analyze contemporary institutions, politics, and cultures. Understanding current issues is not the only reason to study the past; world history also provides unique insight into human nature and human civilization. The purpose of world history is not simply to present facts but to search for an interpretation of the past. Students will learn how and why change occurs over time and within societies and cultures. World history combines the excitement of exploration and discovery with the reward of making sense of challenging problems. By demanding that students see the world through the eyes of others, they will develop a unique framework for understanding human behaviors and to grapple with moral questions and problems. The knowledge and skills students will gain in this world history class will certainly help them better understand themselves and the fascinating world in which they live.
